The tailoring industry is experiencing major challenges—ranging from inconsistent measuring and costly remakes to increasing customer dissatisfaction and a shortage of skilled professionals.

American Tailors and Sewing Association certification addresses these issues by establishing a national, uniform standard for measuring, fitting, and garment alterations. This credential gives tailors, alteration specialists, and retail stores the professional credibility and precision today’s clients expect.

The Certified Fit Professional (CFP) program provides foundational training in garment fit, body measurement, and professional marking techniques used in tailoring and alterations. Designed for aspiring fitters, retail associates, and industry professionals, this certification emphasizes precision, consistency, and clear communication to ensure garments are altered accurately and efficiently. Participants will learn how to perform core measurements, execute proper marking methods, and apply industry standards used in real tailoring environments. Upon completion, students will demonstrate practical competency and be recognized as a Certified Fit Professional.
